MG is on a mission to change the way women and men think about being tan.  That we can be just as attractive and fun in the skin color we were born with.  Caucasian, Hispanic, African-American, Indian – everyone applies here.  Melanoma doesn’t discriminate.  It can develop on anyone – no matter your age, sex or race.

According to the Melanoma Research Foundation, melanoma is one of the fastest growing cancers in the US and worldwide.  And it is growing fastest in the under 30 demographic.  Why?  Most likely to overexposure to UV light and sunlight.  It can take only one blistering sunburn and/or tanning bed use to vastly increase a person’s risk for melanoma.  (For a complete list of UV-related facts and more info on melanoma, please go to the MRF’s website –

So what can YOU do about it?  Well, for starters, you can adopt MG’s mentality for yourself and start making well-informed decisions about how you treat your skin. Then you can educate and encourage your family and friends to do the same.

I know it can be a tough sell.  But if we approach this idea in an inventive and non-judgmental way, maybe – just maybe – we can start a trend.  A new way of life that is safer for everyone and results in fewer occurrences of melanoma and skin cancer.

It’s also about being Sun Savvy – how to play safer in the sun.  MG is going to set up her umbrella in town squares, street corners, parks and beaches this summer to give out free sunscreen, along with relevant information so people can Realize the Risk and make informed decisions for themselves.

So how can you help MG?  Well, you can donate to the MelanomaGirl Foundation and help MG accomplish her goals.  This is only the beginning. I have lots and lots of plans and ideas for the future of MG, but absolutely need your help to get there.

Other ways to give are to purchase some of MG’s fab merchandise!  The whole purpose of the tees, bags, etc., are to create awareness in a fun, approachable way.  By purchasing for yourself, or as a gift for someone else, you are helping to fuel the cause AND helping to promote the message.
